Yet another easy slow cooker recipe!
This was my first time ever cooking asian-style food, unless you count marinating steaks in teriyaki sauce. I love teriyaki, but don't eat a lot of other asian foods because I'm very allergic to MSG. I've been to Chinese restaurants that have claimed they don't use MSG, but trust me, they do! I puke for 12 hours straight if I eat too much MSG, so it's just not worth the risk.
But now that I'm on a cooking kick, I thought I'd pull an asian-style recipe out of our slow cooker cookbook and try some Sesame Chicken, which couldn't have been easier to make.
Layer the bottom of the slow cooker with 2 tablespoons of sesame oil, then add 6 chicken breasts on top.
Now, the recipe called for 3 cloves of garlic....which to me is always confusing. Do they mean 3 of the individual cloves, or three full cloves? I'm thinking they meant 3 of the individual cloves, since this cookbook seems to always go light on the spices. So I chopped 2 full coves and added them on top of the chicken! Mmmmm, garlicky!
Following the garlic, I layered a cup of brown sugar and 6 tablespoons of soy sauce in the slow cooker, and it was ready to cook for 4 hours.
Once the chicken was done, there was some sauce in the cooker, so I decided to make some noodles to go with it. I added about another 1/4 cup of brown sugar and about 2 tablespoons of sesame oil while the noodles were cooking for a little more sauce and flavor, and then just threw the cooked noodles in and stirred.
Another delish meal, if I do say so myself. I'm just in love with our slow cooker, and how it makes meat so soft it melts in your mouth!
Are there any styles of food you've never cooked before?

Lol you're cute :) The thing that the individual cloves come in is called the head. Three heads of garlic would be...bad lol. I LOVE cooking Asian food, though. It's probably one of my favorite types of food to make and eat. Great job!
Yum! I'm so excited to use my slow cooker when we get back to America. This looks scrumptious. All that garlic... mmmmmm! That was definitely some food porn!
Yum, this looks really good! I looove garlic!
Mmm that looks yum. Too bad we don't have a slow cooker!!
Ha! Popped in to explain the head/clove of garlic difference...but looks like others straightened it out for 'ya. That looks delish! I'll have to try it some day :)
That looks delish! I need to start trying some of these recipes!
Also, I left you something on my new blog! http://theluckiestinlove.blogspot.com/2010/09/blog-with-substance.html
Ok question. Could you cut the chicken smaller. I have a THING about big pieces of chicken. Not a fan. I am so scared to use my slow cookerrrr!
Dang that is a lot of garlic! And again, looks like the bulb/clove confusion is over! But, I must say that whenever a recipe calls for a certain amount...I usually double it. Because I like garlic. A lot.
Everyone, thanks for the clarification on the garlic terms. As much as I love garlic, you'd think I would know that! :)
@KJPugs, you can totally cut up the chicken once it's cooked! I actually cut the chicken breasts in half before dishing them up on the plate, but it's so soft that it falls apart into bite sized chunks very easily!
