We go grocery shopping and come home with a freezer-full of frozen food. :(
THIS is why it's so important for me to plan out our meals in advance, otherwise we go shopping without a real list, and end up with lame dinners for the next 3 or 4 weeks. Even though it takes a bit of time, it's a whole lot better than this:
We didn't get only frozen dinners, we also got some prepared pulled pork, deli meat, ravioli....lazy fridge stuff that requires heating, not real cooking. I guess on the upside, our grocery bill at checkout was about $100 less than it usually is, since we didn't buy a million ingredients for cooking real meals. But I'm sure our sodium intake this next month will also be off the charts. Sigh!
Remind me to look at this post before our next grocery shopping trip, mkay? I think it will be good motivation to take the time to meal plan!
Recently, I took stock in our fridge ingredients & wrote down a list of possible meals I could make with them so I could utilize everything we already had & then just pick up the things we did need at the store--it really helped! It didn't feel like such a chore to plan meals because it was more of a challenge to "sweeo the fridge." I also said I wouldn't buy any more meat to stick in the freezer until I cooked what we already had--it's cut down on the bills, and I'm nearly finished with everything!
While I don't meal plan, I do have a good idea of what we have and use the weekly coupon specials to help guide our weekly meals.
But now that school and work has taken over my life, the Mr. has agreed to take over my grocery shopping/food making duties. I just hope he can stay as organized as I was! (And I wasn't that organized...)
We totally do this too. I do my meal planning once a week, and I've tried to be really good about it because I hate the idea of wasting so many calories/sodium/sugar/etc. on something that isn't even going to taste that good. The obvious exception being frozen pizza, because that will never stop being awesome.
Ugh, is it weird that I think all those frozen foods look pretty good? My hubs has convinced me to switch to a vegan diet at home, and I swear nothing we eat has any flavor. Growl. At least I can eat whatever I want when we go out :) Good luck at your next shopping trip - sounds like it's to hot to cook in your neck of the woods anyway ;)
We are the worst at meal planning! We literally ask each other 18 times every night "well what do you want?" and then run to Publix to buy the ingredients to make it right then or go out. Terrible.
Ah yes, the freezer dinner. I know this problem so well. I stopped buying a lot of frozen meal stuff - pizzas and hot pockets and such when we had to cut back on our sodium (which you mentioned). Now I keep a steady supply of frozen steaks, fish and chicken in the freezer, as well as some pizza dough. We always have rice, pasta and tomato sauce in the pantry so, I can usually come up with something quick if I have to. Sometimes I really, really wish I had a frozen pizza in our freezer, though!! Thankfully on nights I'm really not up for it, my husband makes himself cereal. :)
L0ts of iodine for you guys too with the sodium...LOL! Meal planning is so great! I pretty much buy everything at the famers market....good luck on your next trip! Have a great week-end!! :) :)
It happens! That's exactly what our fridge looks like too some weeks when I just don't feel like planning or making an effort to cook. It's terrible but we're young and hard working so I feel like it's okay :)

I have a deep love for shoes, anything with garlic on it, and all things DIY. Just a West Coast 30-something adjusting to life in the South with my husband and 3 kitties. To pay the bills I'm a marketing professional, but my true love is crafting and working on decor projects. And now that we are homeowners, I love taking on bigger renovation projects side-by-side with my husband, as we strive to make our new house a home.

I know that feeling, or when I send my husband shopping and every meal is either red meat or pork.
Good luck for the next shopping trip

Yup, I do the same thing if I don't plan ahead! At least cooking will be easy until the next time you go grocery shopping!

We usually eat the same three or four meals each week but we do keep a good stock of frozen meals for those "I don't feel like cooking" nights. LOL

Dude, that's exactly what our freezer looked like during the six weeks I was in summer school. It's the pits! So grateful I can cook again!
lol, looks like our freezer, only minus the unidentifable tupper ware dishes of random leftovers. don't feel bad!

We do this ALL THE TIME! Usually we end up with 3 gallons of milk and a stock pile of cereal and frozen foods. It's not a good thing lol!
