Scenes From Twin Lakes

This past weekend we went on our last non-holiday getaway of the year, to Twin Lakes State Park in central Virginia.

After our anniversary trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains, this was my favorite weekend trip we've taken since we moved to the east coast. Virginia was so beautiful, so I thought I'd share some pics.

We saw so, so many different kinds of mushrooms!

Crazy-big daddy longlegs spider on the outside of the cabin. Easily as big as my hand, and definitely a whole lot bigger than the pencil dot sized bodies that the west coast ones have!

The next morning we went on a hike, and leaving our cabin, we saw both a butterfly and a toad on our firewood (butterfly on the left, toad blending in on the right).

 There are supposed to be beavers in the park, but this gnawed log was the only proof we saw of them.

On the other side of the lake from where the cabin was.

We hiked around the lake to a boat launch, where there were lots of little fish.

And spied a wedding being set up across the lake.

This submerged log had a lot of turtles on it, but they went into the water as we walked up.

That afternoon, we inflated our tubes, and spend a couple of hours floating around.

 My husband paddled all the way across the narrow lake.

 

I had other plans though, and paddled myself down around the corner, toward where we saw turtles on our hike. (sorry for the poor quality, these were taken with my old point and shoot inside a waterproof case)

  

 

 

 

So peaceful floating on the lake, there were only about three canoes on the whole lake with us, and only one of the 6 cabins were occupied, so it was a very quiet and relaxing weekend.

I can't wait for next year when we get to check out even more gorgeous camping/cabin spots! I think we're definitely ready to brave tent camping in the south, now that we've experienced the head and humidity. Just probably not in July or August!
