After our anniversary trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains, this was my favorite weekend trip we've taken since we moved to the east coast. Virginia was so beautiful, so I thought I'd share some pics.
Entering Virginia, our first time visiting the state.
Our inexpensive, 2 bedroom cabin.
Awesome screened porch with a lake view.
Outside the cabin.
Down by the lake.
We saw so, so many different kinds of mushrooms!
Crazy-big daddy longlegs spider on the outside of the cabin. Easily as big as my hand, and definitely a whole lot bigger than the pencil dot sized bodies that the west coast ones have!
This one looks like it's straight out of a Mario video game!
Acorns kept falling out of the trees down on our camp area.
Trying to learn how to take sun flare photos.
Supervising the burger bbq'ing, as usual.
Gorgeous sunset over the lake.
The next morning we went on a hike, and leaving our cabin, we saw both a butterfly and a toad on our firewood (butterfly on the left, toad blending in on the right).
Huge!
Turtle through the trees!
There are supposed to be beavers in the park, but this gnawed log was the only proof we saw of them.
On the other side of the lake from where the cabin was.
We hiked around the lake to a boat launch, where there were lots of little fish.
And spied a wedding being set up across the lake.
This submerged log had a lot of turtles on it, but they went into the water as we walked up.
That afternoon, we inflated our tubes, and spend a couple of hours floating around.
My husband paddled all the way across the narrow lake.
I had other plans though, and paddled myself down around the corner, toward where we saw turtles on our hike. (sorry for the poor quality, these were taken with my old point and shoot inside a waterproof case)
So peaceful floating on the lake, there were only about three canoes on the whole lake with us, and only one of the 6 cabins were occupied, so it was a very quiet and relaxing weekend.
Supervising the bbq'ing again later that evening.
And we finished our last night with another pretty sunset and a campfire.
I can't wait for next year when we get to check out even more gorgeous camping/cabin spots! I think we're definitely ready to brave tent camping in the south, now that we've experienced the head and humidity. Just probably not in July or August!

Looks like a relaxing weekend!
haha love the captain morgan pose :) Looks like a fun time!
What a cute cabin! Girl, you have me so wanting to get out and go camping now. We can't tent camp with our dogs because they are sissies and don't understand the concept of not sleeping up high in a bed. I'm really thinking we need to look into this cabin camping idea... :)
Gorgeous photos! The turtle photos are amazing, and I've never seen so many kinds of mushrooms in one place. You always find the best "cabins" to rent :)
What a beautiful and relaxing place! I've only been down to Central VA once or twice and never for camping. At some point, you should try to make it up to West Virginia, which also has some stunning locations and great river rafting!
Wow, how beautiful!
Gorgeous pics and I can't get over how big those turtles are!
I'm so glad you liked my neck of the woods!!! ;)
My hubby and I take weekend trips too, and I love the feeling of a vacation in the middle of the "working" season (I'm a teacher). Next summer we are thinking of heading to the east coast for our big vacation, since we have never been there. Your pictures are making me want to go even more!
The mushrooms are crazy, didn't know there were so many wild variations! Love the pics, and how fun does tubing look?! So relaxing! We are planning a weekend holiday getaway to a bach (batch) home, and I wish you guys were here, it'd be so much fun with you two experienced gurus!
