Lately I seem to be seeing grasscloth wallpaper a lot more in design magazines and all over HGTV. Candice Olson seems to be a big fan of bringing it back into style, since I've recently seen her use it on two separate shows (she even has her own line of wallpaper, with some grasscloth options).
But I can't say I'm a huge fan of it myself. I don't mind the look of it (although I think I might get tired of it relatively quickly on my walls), but all I can think about when I see it is how much dust it will collect. As someone with asthma, I'd definitely think twice before putting something with that much texture up on my walls.
However, one place I really like the use of grasscloth is in picture matting! You can still get the textured look, but in a smaller, more manageable dose. And the best part is that it's covered by the glass in the picture frame, so you don't have to worry about all of that dust.
Have a look for yourself, with these pieces I just hung up in our downstairs bathroom.
I'm loving the organic feel the textured wallpaper matting gives off, and it goes well with the rattan accessories in the bathroom as well.
Plus, the soft green color goes great with our guest towels.
What are your thoughts on grasscloth wallpaper? Would you commit to putting it up on the walls of your home? Or maybe only on an accent wall? Got any more creative uses for it, that might minimize how much dust it collects?

That's such an awesome idea! I love adding texture. I may need to steal this idea :) I'm with you on a whole room. I like the idea of it, but not sure I'd want it for everyday. The matting is genius though
Wow, this looks great! I've never heard of grasscloth, but I am with you on the dust concern. No matter what I do, I can't keep the dust out of our apartment, and it drives me insane. your wall art looks great!
I wouldn't put it up as wallpaper, but I also love the way it looks for matting!
I must be out of the loop cause I hadn't heard of grasscloth either! I agree that it would be a allergy catchall as wallpaper...and even a cat scratch possibly! Behind glass in a frame seems like the way to go!
Love the texture in the frame. Trying to picture it as wallpaper....... o_O
very clever to use it in a limited fashion--looks great!
I love it in the frame. On the walls may be a bit too much on a regular basis. Hope you have an awesome weekend and thanks for sharing this! :D

My parents had grasscloth wallpaper (a different weave than shown in your picture) in their bedroom for so many years. My mom has terrible allergies, and it was never a concern for her, but it didn't catch a lot of dust either. Might depend what sort of texture you have. One note - once they got a little water spot at the top from a roof leak, and we painted over the whole thing. It came out very nice.
I love the look of it on the walls, but you're right, I'd probably get tired of it quickly. That's always the problem with any wallpaper. What do you do if you want to change it? Paint is so much easier and more transitionable.
Love the look! I'd probably do it as an accent wall!
That is exactly what I have been looking for and for the exact reason you used it in the matting. I want the look and texture but don't want to commit to the whole wall. Did you make those yourself or can I buy the matting somewhere? Help!
