Things have been a little quiet around here because I've had some crazy-busy days. Thursday-Sunday I spent in Chicago, which was an epic trip. Seriously, best trip ever. I've been in a funk because I want to go back and do it all again. I spent the weekend with some amazingly funny, smart and beautiful ladies, and we crammed in so many activities and late nights that I felt like I was gone for more like 2 weeks! My throat was hoarse for days after returning home from all of the girl talk at loud places. And of course, work has been kicking my butt this week, while I try to catch up from taking time off.
Then Tuesday was our 2 year wedding anniversary. My husband had a late soccer game, but I surprised him by driving 20 minutes each way to pick up Pita Pit for dinner when he was at his game. We had a late dinner of pitas and red wine, followed by him opening his present of t-shirts. Totally a legit 2 year anniversary present--they're made out of cotton, and he needed them! Our real present to ourselves was our new fire pit though. :)
This weekend we're doing our actual anniversary celebration with a nice dinner out tonight at the Angus Barn. Jill highly recommended it to me when we first moved here, and I'm excited to finally try it! Saturday our plan is to chill on the deck and do nothing, except maybe read a book with a drink (I've had this book for a couple months and have been dying to read it). Then we're going to have a BBQ dinner and a fire. I've been a little burnt out lately on house projects, so a day of rest sounds perfect. Next week it will be back to working on projects as usual, since I'm hoping to finally tackle painting the wood trim in our entry hallway. That's been hanging over me for like 2 months now, and it's just one of those dreaded projects that I've just got to bite the bullet and finish, so I won't feel guilty every time I walk by the frog-taped-but-not-yet-painted hall.
And since no post is complete without a photo or two, here are some highlights from Chicago. I don't feel right posting pictures of my travel partners without their permission, but the city and food were just amazing.
(Ok, just one photo with someone else in it, one of my roomies, Katie and I at Rib Fest. Pics of me are going to be all over her blog once she starts her wedding recaps, so I figure it's only fair. Plus this is one of the few pics I have showing off my preplanned Chicago outfits!)
I'm definitely having vacation withdrawals this week. So much so that I just planned a trip to the beach for my husband later this summer. We'll be spending a long weekend in this amazing beach cottage on Bald Head Island, which is a super adorable little island of the NC coast that you can only get to by ferry, and can only drive golf carts and bikes around on. Hooray for having something new to look forward to!
Do you ever get post-vacation blues? I think the best way to remedy them is to start planning another vacation right away. I also hope everyone has a great weekend! I've been keeping up with your blogs, but haven't had much time for commenting. Next week things should be back to normal around here though!

Beautiful Chicago pics! My husband and I went there to celebrate our first anniversary last fall, and we loved it. The buildings are gorgeous.
That beach cottage looks awesome. I'm taking a few long weekend trips this summer and I'm really excited about them. :)
Great photos! It looks like you had an amazing time. I've never been to Chicago but would love to visit one day. That deep-dish pizza looks wonderful!
What a nice time!!! I miss Chicago already (was there for my birthday end of April) and I'm so happy the fountain was on for you!
Your anniversary dinner sounds adorable :o)
Mmmm love me some Pita Pit- and of course, Chicago. This makes me regret only going there really once during my FIVE+ years being less than 3 hours away. Regretssss! Wah. Glad you had a great time, and ps you look GREAT! From the few pics of you I will say outfits FTW!
PS What happened to your Disqus?? I have to either log in with Twitter, Facebook, Google, or Discus, and when I try to type in my name, email, and URL like I used to, it just lets me do name and email :( LE SADS! kjpugs.com for life!
Looks like the trip was wonderful! I'm so sad I wasn't able to make it!
Hmm, guess the new Disqus version is a fail! Think maybe I'll revert back to the old version until they fix things. I love having people's URLs so I can check out their blogs too!
I love your pictures, perfect little snapshots of all the FUN we had!!!! Your outfits were super cute! Your anniversary getaway sounds amazing. I am definitely bummed now that I'm not having fun with you girls anymore, I am planning a Yosemite trip soon since I haven't been since I was a kid and obviously my husband has never been. I also found a great Vegas getaway deal. Happy Friday!
Chicago is so much fun. My husband and I went there for our 2nd Anniversary and loved it so much. I can't wait to go back!
I was just in Raleigh for work this week and went to Angus Barn for dinner with coworkers. It was so good! You'll love it.
Happy Anniversary!
OMG, I'm soooo jealous you're going to Yosemite! Hands down my favorite place on earth for all of the natural beauty (close 2nd is Big Sur though).
Definitely make sure you check out the Glacier Point viewpoint, followed by a short hike out to Taft Point and the Fissures (http://www.yosemitehikes.com/glacier-point-road/taft-point/taft-point.htm). So many of the hikes around Yosemite are difficult climbs, but this is an easy hike to amazing views. I've never been to anywhere else that just allows you to walk wherever you want, with hardly any guardrails. It's scary as hell, but amazing! I totally crawled out on my belly and looked down over the edge at Taft Point, almost 8,000 straight down to the valley floor.
<3 Yosemite!
I love Deep Dish and Katie! Miss you guys!
