So lately, I've only been stocking up on a few essentials every season, and I've been leaning toward spending a little more on quality items that will last, rather than going for quantity like I used to. Last fall I purchased three new pairs of boots, a bomber jacket and an Anthropologie coat, all of which are still in great condition. But there have been a couple of new fall items I've splurged on lately.
First up, slippers. I gotta have them. In the cooler months, as soon as I get out of bed or come home, slippers are on my feet. Otherwise my feet are freezing. But I always seem to buy really cheap slippers from Target, and they only last a month or two before the bottoms have holes in them. So this year I spent some time actually shopping around. Let me tell you, it is actually really hard to find slippers that are both cute and won't wear through on the bottoms in a matter of weeks (sorry, not an Ugs fan!). But I finally found some cute ones. They look like ballet flats, but are so soft and fluffy on the inside!
I ordered two pairs, and hopefully with the more rugged bottoms of the soles, they will last me at least through the winter, if not longer. I definitely think these were worth spending a little more than I would at Target, for something that will hold up over time. Or at least hold up longer than a month!
Another item that I find myself buying over and over are purses. This is a lesson I seem to keep forgetting, and it's an endless cycle. I buy an inexpensive purse made out of cheap materials, and three months later either the inside lining is ripping, the handles are falling off, or it's basically just starting to fall apart. But then I look at my more expensive purses, like my favorite spring/summer tan colored purse by Guess, and it's lasted me many years without any noticeable wear. So I've finally broken down and actually invested in a new fall/winter purse. I'm hoping that even though initially it's more expensive, it will save me money in the long run, if I'm not having to buy a new cheap purse every few months.
I'm hoping this purse will last me a good long time, and I love the color and simple, classic style. It will go with just about everything! I usually tend to gravitate more toward the look of the satin Coach purses, but I think leather was the right choice, for longevity.
And finally, I picked up a couple of new lightweight sweaters, which will be perfect for the generally mild winter we have around here (and work well as layering pieces for colder days). These are both from one of my new favorite online boutiques that I mentioned earlier this summer, Spool No. 72.
I think with these key new items, I'll be all set for the rest of the year (other than maybe some new tights), since I already have plenty of boots, scarves, skinny jeans and jewel toned sweaters and jackets.
Have you done any shopping yet for the colder months? Are there any key items you're willing to splurge on, that end up lasting longer because of the higher quality?

Love that purse! I have some coach purses and they hold up really well.
I love that purse and those slippers - so adorable! I need to get a few more good, quality purses as well! I only have one good one and I like to switch my purses up a bit, so a change would be good!
Such a good point about slippers. I'm home a lot too (full-time uni) and need to get myself a pair of those slippers! Thanks for posting.
Ooooo I love that yellow hoodie! Super cute! While we never got our Indian summer here, surprisingly it's not cold yet. Today we will have highs in the upper 60's, and it's sunny, so I am just grabbing a light sweater or cardigan when I go out. I'm sure in another month I'll be thinking about fall clothes. Cute picks!
I really should invest in a good purse. I've never owned one that wasn't a cheapie!
I love that purse! I too have learned over the years that it's best to invest in real leather purses that will go the distance. Same thing with boots and shoes that get weekly (or more) wear, like my black Stuart Weitzman pumps for work. Can't wait to see some of your fall outfit posts!
Great buys, Morgan! I love the chevron slippers, purse and yellow hoodie. So gorgeous!
great purchases! it's nice to have some basics in the arsenal that you know will last a while.
Great fall items!!! You have lovely taste. I am wondering if it will get cold enough here to warrant slippers... still waiting to see before I buy some :)
I LOVE the purse! I've been thinking of getting a Coach! Hmmmmm. ;) Last year I skipped out on Coach on a compromise of Tignanello (and real leather) but it's so... heavy. :o\ AND MY BIRTHDAY IS COMING UP? :D
Heading into summer over here and I'm finding that I have to buy a LOT. I lost 15 kilos over the couple of years and everything is either too big (so I've donated it) or too scruffy. Loving the fact that places like ModCloth have all their summer clothes on sale though :) Win for me!
the fluffy slippers are so fall/winter!! i really want a pair. also like the mustard jacket posted.
LOOOOVE that purse! Money well-spent, in my opinion.
