Charity Event Decor Success

The charity event that I posted about last week was a big success! There were record breaking bids for the dessert auction portion, and I've gotten so many compliments on the decor.

Even with my husband's help, the set up took about two hours longer than I was hoping, but we still got everything done an hour and a half before the event started. And since I already shared the details of all that I'd been working on, I wanted to do a follow up to show the decor in action.

Unfortunately we were a bit rushed at the end of set up (and eager to get home, shower and change, and get back for the silent auction) that I didn't take photos until we arrived back at the venue, and didn't get to capture everything. But here is a peek at all of my hard work for the past few months.

First, this is what the ballroom looks like, taken from the venue's website. It is one big beige room, and you aren't allowed to hang anything from the walls or ceiling, making it a bit of a challenge to decorate on a tight budget that doesn't allow for uplighting or expensive pipe and drape.

And this is how it turned out, with our tulle and twinkle light stage backdrop, to focus everyone's attention away from the boring beige walls.

In the lobby we had the silent auction tables set up. We couldn't attach anything to the walls out here either, and didn't want to take up valuable table space with decorations, so I hung fun sparkly silver garland from the fronts of the tablecloths. I think I ended up making 238 feet of the half circle garland, and it was the perfect amount for all sides of the tables, with only about 10 feet leftover.

The dessert auction items were also displayed in the lobby, and since this is one of the most fun parts of the night, we wanted the decor to stand out a little from the auction tables, so I hung twinkle lights from the table edges and full circle sparkly garland down the front of the tablecloths. The lights and the garland tied in nicely with both the lights in the ballroom and the half circle garland on the nearby auction tables.

As a last minute project last week, my husband and I made a starry night photo booth backdrop and signage, for some added fun during the silent auction part of the evening.

All in all it was a really fun and successful event. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to contribute to the organization's most important fundraising event of the year, and that all of my hard work paid off! Now if only I could find a job where they would pay me to design and craft event decor....
