We don't usually do much to celebrate Valentine's Day, but this year we did go on a quick cabin getaway the previous weekend, and are going to see the Book of Mormon on tour this coming weekend, so we just pretended those plans counted for Valentine's Day. :)
And speaking of the quick getaway, I wanted to share some photos, because it was a pretty amazing little spot. Mainly because of the fact that it was a cabin built next to a small waterfall, which you could see from the hot tub (hence the title of this post).
The cabin was the third we've rented from VRBO in the North Carolina mountains, and is definitely a place we'd like to return to. It was easy to get to (less than 3 hours from our house), with a lot to do on the private 10 acres, and a great price too, only $150/night.
I'll let the photos (mostly) speak for themselves.
Our first evening we opened a bottle of good wine and took our plastic wine glasses down to the pretty creek that runs through the property.
I'd love to come back sometime when the water isn't so cold, so we could go wading.
Back up at the cabin...at night you can turn the lights on to illuminate the waterfall.
And waterproof cards + empty water bottles + plastic lid = floating hot tub card game while looking at the waterfall in the background!
During the day we did a lot of this.
And also went hiking up the steep trail behind the cabin.
The trail followed the little stream that feeds the waterfall.
And took us to a tree swing with a valley view.
And at one point during our trip, I even climbed halfway up the waterfall. It was great yoga pants and sweatshirt weather during the day.
All in all it was a perfect little weekend to get away from everything (no cell service, so we could truly unplug), and very relaxing. As much as I love going to the NC Beaches, I love the mountains even more!
Have you taken any quick weekend vacations lately?

Beautiful photos! Looks like such a relaxing place. We spent a quiet Valentines Day at home. It was too cold and snowy to want to go anywhere!
What a beautiful place, it looks like a relaxing, romantic holiday!
I could really use a quick getaway, and this looks so relaxing! We haven't gone anywhere since last summer, but we're hoping to get away to the beach for a few days after Matt defends his dissertation.
What a beautiful cabin retreat! Have fun at the Book of Mormon. I really want to see that at some point!
A low key Valentine's Day at home sounds perfect and cozy. Stay warm!
