When I'd told my husband that I was going to a flea market, he said to me, "just as long as you don't come home with a 5 foot tall metal chicken!" No, he doesn't read blogs, but a while ago I'd shown him the Giant Metal Chicken post by The Bloggess. So naturally, I had to at least take a photo of the metal chickens we found, which sadly were only around 2 feet tall.
We also found a whole lot of random and odd things at the flea market. Armless, legless mannequin anyone?
But we did find some good stuff too, namely a piece of furniture I just had to have.
And here it is, my new chaise lounge bench!
I had been looking for something like this forever on Craigslist (and pinned several on Pinterest for inspiration), for my walk in closet bedroom, however the cheapest I was ever able to find on CL was in the $120 range. But while walking around the flea market, my eyes honed in on this immediately, especially the price tag! I couldn't resist the perfect condition, beautiful lines, and most of all, the price of $69. So the chaise lounge bench became mine. Which is a little ironic, because we'd gone to the flea market for my friend to find an outdoor bench to use at her upcoming wedding, but I came home with a bench, and she ended up getting two chairs and two stools instead. Thank goodness it all fit in her small car!
It must be brand new, or nearly new, because the fabric isn't snagged or worn anywhere, and there isn't a single mark on the legs, making it an even better flea market find. And I was extra happy when I got home and peeled off all the layers of price tags, to see it was originally priced at $249!
I actually don't have a single picture of it without my kitty on it. As soon as I carried it inside, she declared it her own, and literally did not move all day long. My husband even offered her a freeze pop while she was on her new perch, and that didn't even tempt her to move (she loves ice in all forms).
So anyway, now that you've seen it, now on to the part I need to figure out (hence, the title of this post)!
It definitely needs to be recovered. And I have no idea with what fabric. I know, I mentioned the fabric already on it is in perfect condition, but it's completely not my style at all. So I bought it knowing I'd be recovering it.
But it's bigger than that even. This conjures up a whole new problem that I haven't given much consideration to yet--how to actually decorate my walk in closet bedroom. I showed you all my old walk in closet bedroom at our previous house, and my current one is very similar, but a bit bigger. But just like back in my old closet, I've never really had in mind, or really given much thought to having an overall decor scheme yet. And so obviously then I don't want to spend the time recovering my new chaise lounge bench without a plan and color scheme in mind. There's just too many ways I could go at this point!
Maybe something patterned with contrasting neutrals, that would work in a closet with soft grey walls?
Or maybe a bright, bold or fun color scheme would be more fitting to my personality?
Or perhaps I should go with shades of purple, since it is one of my favorite colors, and definitely works in a walk in closet.
So, lots of fabrics (and about another two dozen I didn't even share!) to choose from to cover the new chaise, once I even figure out what I want to do for the overall look of the walk in closet. This may even need to wait until after we move again next year, since who knows, maybe I'll need to share my walk in closet bedroom with my home office at our new place (I know, such first world problems, right?). One thing I do know though, however I decide to decorate the closet bedroom, I know I will need something like this in it!
I've long wanted an excuse to have a sparkly chandelier, even though it doesn't fit in with my normal decorating tastes, so what better place to have one than in my walk in closet?
Does anyone else wish they had a fancy chandelier? What is your favorite color scheme for a walk in closet, with a vanity area and a chaise lounge? And have you ever gotten a really good deal on furniture or decor items at a flea market?
