Autumn Decor Inspiration

I can't believe it's almost October already. And that means it's almost time to kick off the holiday decorating season!

Unlike retail stores, that had their Halloween decorations out since before Labor Day, I always try to hold out until the first week of October to start decorating. But this year I'm so excited to decorate our new front porch, that I started gathering some ideas early.

If you remember from when we closed on our house in March, this is what our front porch looks like. It's not very big, and doesn't really have much of an overhanging roof, but it does have some stairs and pretty brick that I can work with.

And I do want to try to use the Celestial Pumpkins and the candy wreath I made last year.

But other than that, I'm completely open to new ideas for this year! So I wanted to share some pretty autumn decoration ideas I've found so far. I'm leaning toward doing something more fall-inspired, than strictly Halloween, so I can use most of the decor for Thanksgiving as well.

Breaking Away From the Norm: Non-Standard Thanksgiving Decor

As I mentioned last week, we're going to my aunt's for Thanksgiving this week, so I don't have any reason to decorate for the holiday. But a girl can still dream, right?

When I think of how I'd decorate my table for Thanksgiving if I ever hosted, I tend to lean away from the traditional explosion of the color orange that seems to always be associated with autumn. I get it, orange is the main color of the leaves people see when they look outside this time of year. It's the color of pumpkins and gourds. But that still doesn't mean that I care for the color. It's actually one of my least favorite colors, and just because it's popular doesn't mean it's something you have to stick to!

And since last week I presented you with my favorite alternative turkey recipe, with lots of garlic and rosemary, I thought I'd also share some non-standard Thanksgiving decor inspiration. I think these still convey the Thanksgiving holiday spirit, but with only a hint or two of orange at most.

(With red fall leaves instead of the white flowers on the branches, how easy would it be to make these centerpieces with stuff from your yard!)
