Over last week I saw that I was tagged again, this time by Abby of From Scratch.
I was having difficulty thinking up 7 random things about myself, so I decided to just sit on it for a few days. But then, as I was eating my very exciting dinner of a Safeway Eating Right brand TV dinner, I looked down, and there was a random fact staring right up at me.

Yes, I’m one of those people. I don’t like my food to touch, and unconsciously separate the different textures, so I can eat them by themselves. Oddly, it’s ok for the rice to touch everything, but no way do I want an edamame and a green bean in the same bite.
I’m weird, I know. Apparently I’ve been like this since I was a kid—my mom
used to joke that she was going to get me those cafeteria plates with the dividers for your food to not touch. Mainly it’s a texture thing with me, like I hate corn in beef stew (you’ve got soft meat, soft potatoes, soft carrots and then a super annoying crunchy thing in there, yuck!), and will pick out the different items in trail mix, but never just reach in and grab a whole handful of everything.
Every time I dish up my meals, my plate looks like this, with space between everything, least they dare touch each other:

Oddly though, there are two things I like to be mixed: I love to smush my pumpkin pie and whipped cream together, so it looks like barf, and I love mixing my Thanksgiving turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy all together. Although now that I think about it, it’s not that weird, because all those things are somewhat soft and not weird textures mixing.
So yeah, there’s another random fact about me. And since I don’t quite know how to end this, I’ll share one of the grossest things my dad ever tried to make me eat growing up: a pasta + rice + ground beef dish. Seriously? Pasta and rice should not even be eaten in the same meal (unless you’re at a buffet or something), and NEVER in the same dish, touching.
*Shudder*

ME TOO! I cannot stand to have my food touch, much less all mixed together (seriously, I won't let A cook because he likes his food mixed together and I cannot STAND it) like in gumbo or vegetable soup!
ME TOO! My husband always talks about buying me the divided plates because I won't eat food that's mixed (except for the usuals, like mashed potatoes and gravy). When we have rice and corn in the same meal, I always leave a ridge of rice/corn where the two touched, because I won't eat the mixed together. He thinks I am the strangest person ever. :)
I spy our wedding food :) Thanks for those photos, by the way... Not sure if our photog got any shots of the food!
I know a few people who don't like their food to mix. I think it's hilarious that you like your pumpkin pie and whipped cream mashed together like barf, hahaha! But I agree that it's totally a texture thing for some people. The divided plates are actually a really good idea!
haha that's too bad. I loooove mixing my food together. And pasta + rice + beef sounds delicious! :-P
Do you eat Indian food? Sometimes I feel like you have to mix every together. But a lot of the texture is the same [mushy] so it's ok?
Haha you are too cute!
Texture-wise, I totally agree. I cannot eat crunchy stuff with mushy stuff. I'm the girl who won't eat brownies with nuts or raspberries because of the seeds. BLECH!
Haha -- the Mr. is the same way! I don't think I mind my food touching that much...but I definitely have food texture issues. One of my weirdest? I prefer my breakfast cereal to be soggy!
I think more people are like this than we think! And there are certain exceptions (rice, clearly... thanksgiving, CLEARLY) but most things are just too weird mixed up like that. I'm not into it at ALL!
Pasta & Rice & Beef sounds like a dish my dad would have attempted to make!
