Your Favorite Makeup Was Discontinued? No Problem!

This week I got my re-order of custom eye shadow in the mail, and it got me wondering. How many ladies don’t know you can have any discontinued makeup products recreated? So this is just a little PSA to anyone who has fallen in love with a certain shade or brand, only to find it discontinued, without a good replacement.

I’m a big fan of Maybelline eye shadows. They seem to last longer than other store brands on my eyes, and I love the color options. I generally wear three different combos, to match my outfits: silver and charcoal, purple and grey, and taupe and brown.

But about 5 years ago, Maybelline discontinued my favorite 2 shade combo, called “Indian Summer.” The cream brow bone color was nothing special, I could find that again, but the lightly shimmery brown color wasn’t something I could live without. And after spending probably $50 on other brands, I just couldn’t find a substitute. So I hoarded my last remaining compact of Indian Summer, only using it for very special occasions.

Then, a few years later, Maybelline brought Indian Summer back, but it definitely wasn’t the same. The brown was much darker, without any of the light shimmer that I loved so much. See for yourself (although I do like the new, darker brown as an eye crease shade).

Finally, a few years ago, I stumbled upon the fact that with just a little bit of the original eye shadow, I could have it recreated!

There are a handful of companies who do this, but the one I used was 3 Custom Color. They were easy to work with, and will forever store your custom recreated product formula, so reordering was really easy. I’m also intrigued that, for example, if you want a certain shade of nail polish turned into a lipstick, you can! So many fun custom makeup possibilities.

Here is my coveted original Indian Summer brown, custom recreated just for me. It’s not cheap, but so worth it to me to have one of my make up staples back in rotation!
