If you haven't noticed (it's ok if you didn't, I won't hold it against you!) I haven't been posting much the past couple weeks. That's because, well, I'm pretty boring right now!
Every free second I've had lately I've been working on unpacking our new house, and starting to decorate our various rooms. So no fun adventures to write about, no new recipes to post (although last night I finally cooked my first real meal in our new house, meatloaf with french fried onions), not much going on to bother posting about, except half decorated rooms.
Oh, and remember how I said a couple of posts ago how I was going to try to buy as few new things as possible for this house, since we're only going to live here for a year? Uh....yeah, we rented a Uhaul truck and drove the 160 miles each way to Charlotte last weekend, and spent over $1,000 at IKEA (but actually, we'd planned on investing a bit in home office furniture for both of us, since my husband and I are both working from home and I'd been using a card table as my desk the past few weeks. But the lamp, wall frames, door mat, closet bedroom rug, etc, etc weren't really necessary, but I *needed* them anyway! I could live at IKEA if they'd let me!). And I also ordered a new rug for our living room. Plus an espresso machine, but that will pay for itself in less than 2 months of Starbucks visits. And I ordered a bunch of other random things from Amazon, that I really did need, but boy is it annoying how they ship every little thing in a separate box!
See all these boxes in our dining room? Only about 2/3rds of those are ones that we brought with us, the rest are from new junk I've bought.
(At least our cats like all of the places to hide that all of these boxes create)
So all in all, it's been an expensive month. And I don't have much to show for it just yet, although I think I'm probably going to just give in and start showing off little bits and pieces of my decorating finds..."good enough" rooms are better than not blogging about it until it's perfect, because lets face it, I'm always going to be tweaking things, and my house is never going to be perfect!
On the move/unpacking/OMGIsSheStillTalkingAboutBoringMovingStuff?!? front, we're getting there, thanks to a genius idea my mom suggested to me. She suggested that while packing, we color-code each room of our house with a different color of duct tape. I then sketched out our floor plan, and made a little cheat sheet for our movers, so they could quickly see what room everything should be unloaded in. And to complete the super-efficient unloading, I made little signs for the door of each room of our house, with the corresponding color of tape on it.
It actually worked great, and having everything in the room it actually belongs in has given us a good head start. But it's still going to be another few weeks until we're not having to dig through boxes everyday for one thing or another.
And there.
I'm now done talking about anything moving related. Maybe. Or at least I'm going to try to move on to more interesting topics, like decorating. And I still haven't showed the fun pictures I took in Florida last month. Maybe I should write about all of the fun two weekends ago in New Orleans with some awesome fellow bloggers. Or make and then share a time lapse video of the photos we took every 30 seconds as we drove across the country. Dang it! Sorry, guess there will still be some posts about move-stuff.
Oh well, that's why it's my blog, right? I can write about whatever! And next week, I think I'll be ready to post some "before" and "good enough for now" photos of some of the rooms of our house.
Until then, I hope you all have a lovely weekend. Go out and do something fun and interesting for me, ok?

That's a genius idea about using different colored duct tape!
Good luck to restoring sanity and returning to a state of normalcy in your new digs :) I'm sure the kittehs will be sad when their box maze leaves, haha
This is your blog and you happen to be moving right now, blog it girlfriend! I love hearing about it.
The duct tape idea is brilliant. Props to your mom..
Sounds like you've been super busy.. and productive.. and expensive! Good to hear you guys are settling in.
They should totally let people live in IKEA. I'm mean really, they have everything all set up for you and you can pick a different bedroom to sleep in every night if you want. And Swedish meatballs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner? Yes, please.
More moving posts, please!!!!! I love them - and I want the NOLA post too! Haha, no pressure.
