Yes, that's right, I made 50/50 burgers, containing about 50% ground beef and 50% bacon.
I'd actually been dreaming about making these since I saw something like it featured on a Travel Channel show months and months ago. But of course, I had to wait until it was BBQ weather, which it finally is!
I thought I was going to be all slick too, and be able to either use my slap chop or chop wizard to quickly cut up the bacon....
But after cutting slices of bacon down so they would fit into my various chopping tools....
Nothing really worked, and I just ended up with patterned, but uncut bacon.
(You're going to love my [bacon] nuts!)
So if you want to try this for yourself, either you need a meat grinder, or just go the old fashioned route and cut up the bacon as small as you can with a knife.
Then just combine the chopped bacon and ground beef, and form into patties like you would when making regular hamburgers. The bacon and beef patties held together surprisingly well, actually!
Cooking on the grill. One thing that I think is important is to use the lowest fat beef you can find (we used 93/7 beef), otherwise you might end up with some flare ups on the grill, since there is all the extra bacon grease to deal with.
And ready to eat! Of course I had to put some bacon on top of my 50/50 burger, along with colby-jack cheese, BBQ sauce, honey mustard, mayo, garlic powder and fried onions, all on an onion bun!
Nom, nom, nom!
Have you ever made something at home that you've seen featured on a food show? And why don't more restaurants start offering this on their menus? I mean, other than the fact that this probably made the burger 4000% worse for you. But it was totally worth it, for the bacon deliciousness!

oh my gahhhh! Morgan, that is incredible!! I think if you started marketing that, you'd make a million dollars. And that would be awesome.
I'm SO ready to try this--what a fun indulgence for a bbq!

Wow, that sounds delicious! I'm envious of your BBQ weather and the fact that you have room for a BBQ ;) I've made a few of the recipes from Giada's "Cooking for One." Now that I'm married, I just double them!
