Remember back in November when the friendly fox visited us?
And we've had deer, bunnies and turtles come by too.
And I'm constantly being distracted by more common animals, like squirrels, birds, and our cats running around. But today we had a new kind of friendly backyard visitor, an opossum!
(Sorry for the cell phone quality pics!)
I know not everyone thinks they're cute, but being the animal lover that I am, I'm always happy to see another backyard friend! And they remind me of growing up in Washington State, where we would see them all the time. I don't think I ever saw an opossum the whole time we lived in California.
The best part of all? I totally thought it was just my blue point Siamese cat when I first spotted it out of the corner of my eye! It cracks me up just thinking about how insulted Hailey would be, that I thought she was a scruffy opossum.
Here's hoping we have just as many, if not more animals in our new backyard after we move!

I love opossums! I think they're cute, but I'm like you about animals. Here in the city, I see lots of dogs and pigeons! And of course one pretty cute kitten :) North Carolina is like living in Snow White!
A few years ago my Mom's cat caught a baby opossum, she rescued it and we nursed it back to health. My son was 6 and thought it was the best thing ever! All I heard was can we go to Grandma's and see the opossum today?!?!
Wow, how awesome that so many animals have found their way to your yard! Here's definitely hoping the new home is the same.
Love your wildlife-filled backyard! Opossums are my all time favorite animal - no joke. I have a small collection of stuffed opossums. You should seriously wikipedia them, they have super fascinating reproductive lives.
Um. Possums are cute until their little beady eyes glare at you in the dark! Just writing that gives me shivers! Do watch out for armadillos, though - they can carry disease and you need to watch out for the kittah's!
Cute! I'm glad you're getting so many woodland friends in your backyard - hopefully there will be tons at the new place as well :)
I can't lie, I don't like opossums! Hahaha Hope your trash cans are secure. ;)
Aww, opossums are cute! We had one with babies on her back walk by our back door when I lived in San Jose and the little ones are so cute! I love all the other animals you get, too!
It's like you have a menagerie in your backyard! How fun!!
Cute opposum! I like them as long as they stay out of the trash. We had one living in our shrubbery while I was growing up!
