We are getting so close to finishing the popcorn ceiling removal in the family room/breakfast nook/kitchen! The work week is getting in the way a bit, but luckily I have the flexibility to be able to go paint for a few hours in the late in the afternoon while there's still daylight, and then come home and do a few more hours of work after it gets dark.
Things are looking smooth and clean though! I really do want to just pet the ceilings, they're looking so nice. But it is taking forever because of all of the beams in the family room. We haven't decided what we'll be doing with them yet, either leaving them natural (but probably eventually staining them to match the walnut hardwood floors we'll put in in a few years) or else painting them white. But since we're still undecided, we've had to take a lot of time covering the sides of the beams, taping them off, and cutting in around each of them while priming and painting.
But it's oh so smooth, and definitely worth the extra effort. Here's a view looking up at a beam. I took this last night, after putting on the first coat of ceiling paint.
I waited until this afternoon to check out how just the one coat was looking after it dried, and the good news is that it looks great. I'm really glad we took the time to do two full coats of primer to let it really soak into the bare drywall.
So just wanted to check in and report that things are going well and we're so close to being done! I've been taking notes on what has (and hasn't) been working during the process, so I can do a full post once we're done. Only the coat of ceiling paint in the kitchen and nook left to go!
Also, as a side note, my husband and I have had the spiderpig song stuck in our heads ever since we started this popcorn removal project. Too bad we didn't have a spiderpig to help us with the scraping and sanding!
Hope you're all having a great week so far. And hopefully it's been a little more relaxing than mine has been!

They look great!!! I can't wait to see the finished product :)
I just wanted to chime in about the beam. We painted ours white because it had a terrible stain on it but now I wish that we had sanded it and stained it a different color. So my vote is to leave it natural.
Wow, it looks fantastic! I can't wait to see your tutorial on how you're doing this, because I'm DYING to do the same!
I'm so impressed that you guys jumped right in and did so much work! I think that I've turned into a bit of a wuss when it comes to this stuff. The idea of scraping ceilings just exhausts me, so I'm impressed you guys just got it done so fast! They look really good!
woohoo! sounds like you're getting there!
Congrats on making so much progress! That's too funny about the spiderpig song. LOL.
How could you NOT reference spider pig in relation to ANY ceiling! Way to go guys!
Hah! I laughed out loud at the text exchange from your husband! Your ceiling looks great - way to go!
