Teal, White and Grey Guest Bedroom Reveal

Last weekend we had visitors, so I'd been working hard on fixing up our guest room, and I can now say it is guest ready, if not 100% complete yet.

There are still a few things in here that I'd like to do, like build a bench for the end of the bed, and I still have one blank wall with no decor on it yet. And someday we'll get to scraping the popcorn ceilings, like we did for our downstairs rooms. But it's definitely an improvement over how this room first looked after we moved in!

I'd always wanted this room to have a subtle beachy cottage feel, ever since I planned it out last February. Originally I was going to get two large prints or canvas wraps for the wall below that had sandy beach scenes, but once I stumbled across these two Mediterranean coastline canvas wraps, I fell in love. They add just enough pops of color, along the the books on the shelves, to break up all of the teal, white and grey we've got going on in here. Plus, they look really great with the gold sunburst mirror I made.

I'm still really happy with how the bookcases I painted and made backer boards for turned out, and if guests are ever in the mood for reading while they're here, they've got a selection to choose from.

And I really like this newer version that I made of the board and batten headboard, the crown moulding just makes it look way more polished.

Probably my favorite feature, the sunburst mirror made from wood shims.

And you already saw how I updated this old bedside table, by painting it and adding new drawer pulls.

We can't forget the lamp, that inspired the teal color of the headboard, shell art and other accessories.

In fact, I'll show a few photos with the lights on, since it's always interesting to see how paint colors look in different lighting. The color I used on the walls was Shaker Gray by Benjamin Moore, and the teal is Surf Blue.

It only took me 6 months after buying most of the accessories, and a year after I posted my Photoshop mock up that laid out my ideas, to circle back and (mostly) finish this room!

Not too shabby, if I do say so myself. Reusing a lot of things we already had, like the bed, bookshelves and chairs helped save a lot, since a little paint and slipcovers goes a long way. And now I'm excited to have more people come and stay with us, now that we have a pretty room for them to stay in!
