We've been making some good progress on our garage makeover project though, and are going to start building workbenches this weekend. Last weekend we spent all of Saturday cleaning and organizing things, with a trip to the dump to get rid of a ton of useless junk. And we got everything away from the walls so I could start painting.
Then came the fun of painting the dark trim on Sunday. I think this was the first time I was ever glad there was no crown moulding in a room, because that would have only made things go slower. And as it was, as usual, our dark trim took four coats to cover (two coats of primer, two of semi gloss). This took me about 12 hours on Sunday, with only a few breaks for meals and to rest my feet. And yes, I'm still suffering from 'painting claw hand.'
Monday night I did all of the cutting in, which was a bit of a pain up near the 10 foot ceilings. Although I guess it was a good workout climbing up and down the ladder and hauling it around the perimeter. Then last night I did the main wall painting, which went a whole lot quicker than the cutting in.
It looks so much cleaner and nicer already! Although I didn't paint the door to the house yet, since I'm still deciding if we might want to paint it a fun color, or just give it a fresh coat of white paint. It sure looks dirty compared to the fresh white trim now though!
The wall painting went so quickly (well, about two hours, so quickly relatively speaking!) that I even had time to put the first coat of primer on the cabinet we'll be hanging over one of the workbenches. I can't wait to see this thing all shiny and white once it's painted, since it originally came from our kitchen above our peninsula. Someday the rest of the cabinets in the kitchen will get painted too, although we'll spring for new doors that don't feature wood panel detailing!
Other than that, we've been getting new packages delivered every day, with all of the garage supplies I ordered last weekend. And we picked up our five sheets of slatwall from Home Depot this past weekend too, which is just hanging out in the workroom, waiting to be hung in the next couple weekends.
We've got a busy weekend in front of us, but we're hoping to take it easy on the 4th, and enjoy our day off of work, since we don't have Friday off. What is everyone else doing tomorrow? Anyone else have to work Friday? If so, I feel your pain!
