Ok, so if you saw my post yesterday or my tweets, you know that I'm not a very happy camper about my new haircut that I got on Saturday. And I've decided to go back to the salon tomorrow after work, where she will try to do some damage control for free.
But in the meantime, don't cha all want to see the horror I've been living with the past few days? I'm betting these pictures will make you feel really good about your own hair do!
First, this is it freshly blown dry, not curled at all. Bleh! I want my layers back, damn it!
(Please excuse my dirty mirror, and the fact that I'm in my PJs, with a wet spot on my back from my hair!)
See, the top layer should have been cut about 1/3rd as thick, and at least two extra layers should have been kept in the middle. :(
I seriously feel mutilated. After trusting my stylist for over 6 years without ever a problem. Now I get why the girls on ANTM cry on makeover week!
Pretty much there's no wearing it like I was in my pre-cut post last week, with just the ends curled, or else I just look stupid. This can never be (oh how I miss you!):

The only fix I've been able to come up with is some major curling. Not something I want to do every single day of my life just to get by. This is what it looked like yesterday morning, the curling kind of made the ridonk top layer blend with the stupid bottom layer.
The problem is (other than the obvious) is that it took me about 45 minutes to curl my hair this much, because the now exposed bottom layer doesn't curl very well, or hold curl very well, so it takes forever. And after being terrified all day to lean back or bump my hair, and make the curls fall out, it looked like this at about 9:30pm.
Not as horrifically terrible as I expected, but the top layer still bugs the crap out of me, especially from the side. It poofs out too much, because my hair is just way too thick to be reduced to two stupid layers.
Sorry for making you guys listen to my ranting. Can you tell I'm a little upset about this? Yeah, after some sleepless nights and bad dreams, this is definitely effecting me more than I thought it would!
So now I'm going back tomorrow night to see what can be done. And I'm bringing pictures with me. First, this is what I wanted, just more layers than I had, keeping my length, and the option to be able to wear it all curly, or with only the bottom of the layers curled under:

But the problem is, I'm not sure my hair is salvageable. I don't think I want that lonely bottom long layer cut into, to create pathetic, thin layers on top of it. It's already so thin!
So the only other option I can think of is to cut my bottom layer up to about half way down my back, so there's less of a gap between it and the too short layer, and then add some wispy layers even higher than my top layer. Then in a year when it grows out it might actually look like what I wanted?
I'm envisioning something like Courtney Cox's hair in Cougar Town, but longer:

It's all I've been able to come up with as a fix. One year (at least) until I will have hair I like again. Sigh!
Unless you, my lovely readers, can come up with another suggestion? I'm really open to them if you can think of some other way I can keep my length, and not look like I have a weird short and long mullet back hair do when it's not spiral curled.
Please help! I've got until 5pm tomorrow night to figure out something, because I'm not trusting my stylist again, I need a plan!

Oh girl! My heart absolutely BREAKS for you. I would absolutely die. Have you thought about going short? Just cutting it off where the thick layer ends? It would be new and different and require ALOT less curling!
@KMSull I did briefly consider that. I had shoulder length hair about 5 years ago, but actually, it's about the same amount of work! Getting short layers to flip just the way I wanted was just as much curling effort. And I even told my stylist on Saturday that by now, post-wedding, I was expecting to be tired of my long hair, but I wasn't, and if I went short now, I'd just be unhappy with it. :(
Oh wow. I would have FLIPPED. I know you're loyal to your stylist, but there is really no excuse for that and I would have a hard time going back to her. You're very brave and trusting to let her fix your hair.
I love both Kim and Courtney's hair, so I don't think you can go wrong :) Good luck and let us know the results!
I think that last picture of Courtney is totally do-able. I know you love your length and I hate that she did this to you. Hopefully she'll see how upset you've been over this and do some hair magic.
I'll have my fingers crossed for you! Keep us posted.
Because of your beautiful hair color, I think it looks nice regardless, but I can see how you'd be mad at the gap between long and short layer. I'd suggest cutting the longer layer short too. Sorry :( I know you didn't wanna do a PWC but who knows, you could end up liking the change!
Good luck tomorrow! I still think it's salvageable, but you may have to lose a little length, which I know you don't want to do :( Keeping my fingers crossed that it all turns out OK. And definitely bring your inspiration photos with you!
Dang! Though, you look great, I love the full curls!! I've been there... with TOO short layers. In fact, I was once asked by a hair dresser why I had a growing mullet...?!My top layers were so short they were spikey, and my hair was long... Oy. And it was 2009. Oy. Hope you found a solution to tide you over while it grows out, because it will grow out, you will get your long layers back, promis!!
Just wanted to send lots of good vibes your way for your second cut. I hope it turns out to your liking. I think trimming some of the bottom and evening out the layers will help a lot. It will grow back before you know it! (hugs)
From one thick-haired girl to another, I feel for you. I really don't see how your stylist thought that only two layers would work best for your hair type. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll be able to help when you go back!
first, i want to say that i'm so impressed with the amazing things you do with your hair. that takes serious dedication. as for the hair itself, i'm not an expert, but i'm kind of leaning towards your suggestion of cutting off the bottom thin layers to make things less uneven, and then letting it grow out. good luck!
OH my, Morgan! My jaw DROPPED when I clicked on the first picture, that is SO not the way to cut layers into long hair (though at this point I know you know that as well as anyone!) I'm so mad at your stylist! Your best bet is definitely cut the long layer shorter and let the short layers catch up. I'm so sorry she did that to your long gorgeous hair!
Anxiously awaiting an update!

I feel you pain. This exact same thing just happened to me, and I'm getting married in 9 months!! Freaking out...would do what you're planning and cut to the short thick ugly top layer so it's more even and at least a cute cut, even if 10 inches shorter than I wanted..but really wanted long hair at my wedding. :(
