4th of July Yarn Wreath

I'm back at it again, making more wreaths!

I don't know why I didn't end up making a 4th of July wreath last year, but it gave me the perfect excuse to make one this year! And a nice little hands on project like making a wreath was just what I needed, to unwind after all of the bigger, more consuming projects we've been working on lately.


This is the second wrapped yarn wreath I've made (the first one was our new house's very first wreath), and I really like this style. Wrapping the yarn is pretty easy and mindless, so it's great for watching TV while working on it.

Two tips I've picked up while making these types of wreaths is to first, mark off where your yarn colors are going to go, if you're using more than one color of yarn.

And second, it goes so much quicker and easier if you make little yarn holders. The first time I made a yarn wreath, I was just unwinding the yarn skein around the wreath form, but it quickly started to come unraveled and got tangled. Making little yarn holders out of empty toilet paper rolls and squares of cardboard, then wrapping the yarn around the holders makes it so much easier to then neatly wrap the yarn around the wreath form, keeping everything nice and tight and untangled.

For the star on this wreath, I just took a plain wooden star from the craft store, and spray painted it silver, and topped it off with some glitter spray.

I hot glued the star on, and made a loop of yarn for hanging the wreath, and that was about it.

Nice and easy, and it only took me a couple of hours to complete!

I really want to paint our front door a bright blue color, but then I second guess myself when I look at these pictures. White does make the wreath colors pop, although blue would look really nice from the street. We'll see though, door painting isn't very high on our to do list at the moment!

Have you done any decorating yet for the 4th of July? Isn't it sad that this year it's on a Wednesday? I'm not sure how much celebrating we'll be doing since it's mid week, although my brother in law is having an early party next weekend. This might be the only decorating I do for this holiday if we're not going to be doing much to celebrate!
