Unlike retail stores, that had their Halloween decorations out since before Labor Day, I always try to hold out until the first week of October to start decorating. But this year I'm so excited to decorate our new front porch, that I started gathering some ideas early.
If you remember from when we closed on our house in March, this is what our front porch looks like. It's not very big, and doesn't really have much of an overhanging roof, but it does have some stairs and pretty brick that I can work with.
And I do want to try to use the Celestial Pumpkins and the candy wreath I made last year.
But other than that, I'm completely open to new ideas for this year! So I wanted to share some pretty autumn decoration ideas I've found so far. I'm leaning toward doing something more fall-inspired, than strictly Halloween, so I can use most of the decor for Thanksgiving as well.
Mums look great with brick steps, and bring in orange in a way other than with using pumpkins:
I like the idea of using what you've got around your yard for decor, in this case, fall leaves on branches:
Pretty autumn wreath, different than a lot I've seen:
The always cute address number pumpkins:
Definitely going to add some leaves and ribbon on our outdoor sconces:
And I really like the use of urns and baskets and bales of hay to give varying height to the porch decor:
A garland made of leaves around the door is a sweet touch. Maybe with some orange twinkle lights to light things up for the trick-or-treaters?
We don't have the room for it on our porch, but I'm loving the shabby-chic look of an old ladder to display pumpkins:
Candy corn bunting. I die.
Pumpkin planters are so cute!
I can't wait to start decorating for fall! Have you started decorating yet? Anyone else planning on doing something more autumn-inspired, instead of specifically Halloween-y? For the last few years we've mainly just done Halloween decorations, so this year I'm hoping to do something with a little more longevity, that will work through Thanksgiving too.

I wish we had a front porch to decorate. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do! Wven though I love fall decor, I kind of go Halloween crazy. I may or may not have already put up my decorations. :)
i love the idea of using fall leaves and pumpkins as planters!
Love all these ideas!! You make me want Halloween to hurry up and get here! Also love your sold sign. I may have to steal that idea from you for when we close on our new home!

I love your inspiration, especially the candy-corn bunting. I haven't started decorating yet, but the Halloween decor is definitely coming out this weekend. I also need to start planning for our "creepy carn-evil" themed Halloween party, which means the Sleepy Hollow decor I used last year needs to be re-worked. I can't wait!!!
I like your idea of going for fall so the decorations can last longer! I was recently checking out some decor items and opted for some gourds over just pumpkins so it could last through Thanksgiving.
I love fall!! It's too windy here to have wreaths on our front door, and too dry for carved pumpkins to last more than a day (seriously). But I'm glad you reminded me about fall decor (it doesn't feel like fall here yet!), because I want to make paper wreaths for different occasions for my new daughter's room! I think I'm going to use Paper Source kits for this year. But maybe we'll make them together when she's older!
such great inspiration photos! i love this time of year. can't wait to see what you end up doing!
I love so many elements from different ones! I always love pumpkins lining the stairs, though. I like the crow, the candy corn pennant and the address pumpkins especially!
LOVE the wreaths/garland idea and ESPECIALLYYY love the monogrammed planters! You could do the monograms on a pumpkin or something instead, maybe? I LOVE FALL!!! :D
i always forget that front doors can be decorated for any occasion. a nice fall wreath of leaves and a pumpkin planter or two would be nice.
