And it was DIY photo art. Which is perfectly fitting for a craft room!
It all started about a month or two ago, right after I finished my under-shelf ribbon spool holder. I was searching etsy and Pinterest for "craft art" or "craft supply art" or something like that, thinking I would just find some cute prints to purchase. Like this pretty watercolor of sewing thread by jenniferallevato.
But then I came across this image on Pinterest, and my creativity was sparked. Maybe I could take a stab at photographing some craft supplies myself!
So I did. I dug out some thread, ribbon and paint, set them up on a clean part of my desk, and started shooting away, with different configurations, until I was happy with each one. The only problem was that I wanted my craft supply photo art to match the green and grey color scheme of my room, and I didn't have everything in green. So I had to do a little Photoshopping. But that was ok, since I knew I'd have to at least crop things down to 11" x 14" to fit some frames I already had.
Here's what I came up with, the original photo is on the left, and my post-edited photo is on the right. For the first two, I had to cut out the colored thread or ribbon (feathering by 2px first, to soften the edges), paste them into a new file, and mess around with the colors until I liked them. I mainly used the selective color and hue/saturation adjustments, with no set rules, just played until I liked the colors. Then I pasted the now-green parts back into my original photo, and messed with the vibrance until I liked everything, cropped it down to fit my frames, and I was done. I'm definitely not a Photoshop expert, I've just had years of practice playing around in it!
I actually owned green paint already, so this one was easy, I just took care of some paint splatters on the paint tubes and adjusted the vibrance slightly.
I had the photos printed at Walgreens, and now they are hanging in some frames I already had lying around. And my craft supply wall doesn't look so lonely anymore!
Here they are in their frames. Framed art is always so hard to take pictures of, with the reflections in the glass.
I think with the addition of curtains, and then wall art, rooms always start to feel more complete and homey. I just wish I could accurately photograph this room with just natural light, but because it only has the one smallish window, you'll have to settle for photos with the lights on. But trust me, the green craft supply photos in the white frames really pop against my grey walls.
