And it was DIY photo art. Which is perfectly fitting for a craft room!
It all started about a month or two ago, right after I finished my under-shelf ribbon spool holder. I was searching etsy and Pinterest for "craft art" or "craft supply art" or something like that, thinking I would just find some cute prints to purchase. Like this pretty watercolor of sewing thread by jenniferallevato.
But then I came across this image on Pinterest, and my creativity was sparked. Maybe I could take a stab at photographing some craft supplies myself!
So I did. I dug out some thread, ribbon and paint, set them up on a clean part of my desk, and started shooting away, with different configurations, until I was happy with each one. The only problem was that I wanted my craft supply photo art to match the green and grey color scheme of my room, and I didn't have everything in green. So I had to do a little Photoshopping. But that was ok, since I knew I'd have to at least crop things down to 11" x 14" to fit some frames I already had.
Here's what I came up with, the original photo is on the left, and my post-edited photo is on the right. For the first two, I had to cut out the colored thread or ribbon (feathering by 2px first, to soften the edges), paste them into a new file, and mess around with the colors until I liked them. I mainly used the selective color and hue/saturation adjustments, with no set rules, just played until I liked the colors. Then I pasted the now-green parts back into my original photo, and messed with the vibrance until I liked everything, cropped it down to fit my frames, and I was done. I'm definitely not a Photoshop expert, I've just had years of practice playing around in it!
I actually owned green paint already, so this one was easy, I just took care of some paint splatters on the paint tubes and adjusted the vibrance slightly.
I had the photos printed at Walgreens, and now they are hanging in some frames I already had lying around. And my craft supply wall doesn't look so lonely anymore!
Here they are in their frames. Framed art is always so hard to take pictures of, with the reflections in the glass.
I think with the addition of curtains, and then wall art, rooms always start to feel more complete and homey. I just wish I could accurately photograph this room with just natural light, but because it only has the one smallish window, you'll have to settle for photos with the lights on. But trust me, the green craft supply photos in the white frames really pop against my grey walls.

How cute and creative, I love it!!
So cute! This is a great idea for art in a craft room.
This is such a fun idea! I've messed around with colors in PS before (Shhh ... on our Christmas cards last year, I totally painted on lipstick after the fact because I forgot to put any on before we snapped the pic), and I like how they turned out!
i am in love with the idea of craft supply photos as art. the ombre of the ribbon and thread are just so good!
That's adorable! I love how it turned out!!
I've been following your posts a little over a year ago and always appreciated your detailed description and explanation of the task at hand. How long did it take you to get the original photo of the threads to the finished product of the green threads?
Cute! At first I thought you had actually put ribbons and thread in shadowboxes!! :)
This is a great idea!! The pics look great!
Great job!!! They almost look 3-D!
I take pictures of my yarn... when my cat is wrapped up in it.
Maybe I should try some of the yarn all by itself. Wish me luck lol
I would say it took me probably an hour of time to Photoshop all three of the pictures. The most time consuming part is cutting out the individual ribbon/thread, making sure you're only getting the colored parts. Then once I pasted the colored portion into a new window, I usually started with the selective color adjustments (like for the purple thread, I adjusted the magenta selective color), which took a few minutes, then I usually adjusted the hue/saturation a little, then pasted it back into the original, and repeat for the other colors. The ribbon and thread ones each took around 20 minutes or so for each photo, and the paint one took less, because I didn't have to change the colors to green.
Actually, now that I think about it, it may have just been quicker to go buy green ribbon to photograph in the first place, but oh well! :)
This is such a great take on what you found as inspirations! I love how you framed them and put them up! Your room looks amazing too! Great desk!

Morgan, these are so awesome! The photography is great and how patient of you to take the time to adjust the colors. I just may have to do something similar for my office. Haven't found anything that is knocking my socks off so why not do it myself?!
Soo soo much love! This is genius to the max! Great idea and execution.
Cute photos! I have no Photoshop skills whatsoever, but this is a great idea and really pulls your craft room together! Now I can't wait to see what you do with the closet part of the room :)
This is so cute! You did a great job!!
Very cute! Love the pics!
Your photoshop skills are off the chainnnnnnn. I love how these look in your craft/office space!
